Back in 2006, I took the nursing entrance exam and passed. However, a week before enrolling in a Nursing program, my family convinced me to take up Special Education instead. It was kind of hard to decide because my heart and mind were set in Nursing but upon reflection, I did a 180. One of the reasons I got convinced was my dream to visit the USA! Special Education at that time was so in demand abroad so I decided to give it a go. Who would have thought that almost 10 years after graduation, that dream has become a reality! Thank you `iTeach America for making this possible. Yes! It took so many years before it was realized but no regrets. I am grateful that I was able to serve my country first and was able to spend time and take care of my aunt with Down Syndrome until she departed this life. She passed away two months before I left for the US. Her passing was one of my "go" signals to pursue this American dream. Moving on, this is how I got connected with iTeach America. Miss Julie of iTA posted a message on our Alumni FB page about the opportunity to work here in the USA. I immediately sent her a message after I did a little background check on her by browsing her social media profile and the iTA website. =D The iTA website showed no reviews nor success stories from clients, something that I should be worried about. Later I also found out that I was the very first person who applied. Yes, you read it right! iTA just started at that time when I applied. Having learned that, I still continued my application through iTA because of the agency's transparency especially with the entire process and the cost. Also, Miss Julie was present during my video conference job interviews in the 2 different schools I applied in. For that, and among other things, she earned my trust. Applying through an agency doesn’t mean you only pay and the rest will be taken care of for you. You have to do your part as well to make the process fast. You need to prepare and submit documentation for credentialing, licensure and visa applications. You have to fill out and complete job applications to the different school districts of your choice (better apply to multiple districts for more chances of winning! ). You also have to do research and study possible interview questions then practice how you answer them. Lastly, pray for it and be patient. I believe God ordains the times and places where we should be. Currently, I am working as a Special Education Resource Teacher in one of the schools in New Mexico. So far I am loving the work that I do. There are of course challenges but they’re manageable. Just don’t hesitate to ask for help. Glad I belong to an amazing team and school community! So for those of you who are planning to participate in this program and dream to see the wonders of the US of A, hold on to that! You are one step closer to your dreams with iTeach America- a budding and LEGIT agency based in New Mexico.
All good things come to those who wait in His perfect time.
